SLB and ADNOC Drilling Join Forces for Unconventional Oil and Gas Development

On September 30, 2024, SLB announced the formation of Turnwell Industries LLC OPC, a joint venture (JV) with ADNOC Drilling Company and Patterson-UTI. This collaboration aims to harness cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence, smart drilling design, completions engineering, and production solutions to accelerate the development of the UAE’s unconventional oil and gas sector. The initial plan involves completing 144 wells by the end of 2025.

As part of this joint venture, SLB will provide comprehensive services, including integrated drilling, stimulation, and completion solutions, alongside project management, digital capabilities, and subsurface support. The equity stakes in the JV are divided as follows: ADNOC Drilling, through its wholly owned subsidiary ADH RSC LTD, will hold a 55% majority stake, SLB will have a 30% stake, and Patterson-UTI will possess the remaining 15%.

Tarek Rizk, SLB’s president for the Middle East and North Africa region, expressed pride in this strategic partnership, highlighting SLB’s leadership in the region's deployment of innovative digital, drilling, and completion technologies for developing unconventional energy resources. He noted the promising future of the UAE’s unconventional energy assets and emphasized the commitment to enhancing their performance in a safe and sustainable manner.

Abdulrahman Abdulla Al Seiari, CEO of ADNOC Drilling, referred to the partnership as a pivotal moment for Turnwell and its key partners. He emphasized that the accelerated well program showcases the innovation, collaboration, and pursuit of excellence that will characterize the JV. Al Seiari highlighted that Turnwell aims to unlock the vast potential of the UAE’s world-class unconventional energy resources while setting new standards for the global energy sector. He conveyed pride in leading efforts to responsibly shape the future of energy in the UAE and beyond.

This joint venture marks a significant step toward advancing the UAE's unconventional energy landscape, with SLB, ADNOC Drilling, and Patterson-UTI combining their expertise to enhance drilling performance and operational efficiency. Through this collaborative effort, the partners aim to establish benchmarks that will influence the energy industry globally, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable development and innovation in energy production.
