Subdued Industrial Uptake, Push down Chinese Sodium Chloride Prices by 2.86%

January trading for Chinese Sodium Chloride weakened on ample domestic supply and subdued uptake. Solar-brine operations shifted to vacuum refining, keeping inventories comfortable while winter rates stayed high. Domestic demand cooled as chlor-alkali complexes trimmed runs and de-icing needs were largely met; export loadings to buyers held steady with no uptick in spot tenders. By month-end, exporters faced discount pressure amid inquiries, resulting in a softer tone. Downstream dynamics underpinned the trajectory: chlor-alkali and caustic soda producers curtailed operating schedules, and caustic soda prices fell, trimming salt consumption and posing a headwind for demand. Municipal de-icing demand remained weak after peak winter activity, while an inaugurated sodium-ion cell line signals longer-term potential but limited near-term uptake. Supply-side conditions, including marine-brine clusters and stable power costs, reinforced the easing environment, with production near run-rate and ample inventories. Looking ahead, a mild recovery is anticipated as buyers replenish ahead of spring and exporters stay responsive to inquiries, contingent on production and logistics.

The market value of sodium chloride in the export market of China has decreased in January xxxx due to ample domestic supply and subdued industrial uptake. The early January has observed that the coastal solar-brine producers of sodium chloride has switched to steam-assisted vacuum refining and have maintained high winter operating rates which kept their inventories at comfortable levels. The domestic demand for sodium chloride has decreased as the chlor-alkali complexes have reduced their runs and municipal de-icing requirements has been met before the New Year. The export loadings to regional buyers of sodium chloride were on operational needs and failed to trigger any increment in spot trading. The Chinese exporters of sodium chloride have faced pressure in late January and offered discounts amid steady but not expansive external enquiries which left the overall market direction downward for the month.
