Syensqo to Double Aromatic Polymer Capacity in India by 2028

Syensqo will double compounding capacity at Panoli by 2028, strengthening India’s automotive supply chain for high-performance aromatic polymers.

Syensqo, a global producer of high-performance materials, is expanding its manufacturing footprint in India with a new compounding line for high-performance aromatic polymers at its Panoli site. The investment is aimed at strengthening the company’s local supply capabilities and supporting growing demand from India’s rapidly developing automotive sector.

The new compounding line is scheduled to become operational by the first quarter of 2028. Once commissioned, it will double Syensqo’s existing compounding capacity at Panoli, enabling the company to respond more efficiently to increasing demand from automotive manufacturers and suppliers in India as well as customers in international markets.

The project will also represent the first asset in a planned modular compounding hub at the Panoli facility. The flexible setup is designed to accommodate multiple products within Syensqo’s aromatic polymers portfolio. The line will be capable of processing a wide range of high-performance materials, including Ryton® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), KetaSpire® polyetheretherketone (PEEK), Amodel® polyphthalamide (PPA), and Ixef® polyarylamide (PARA).

The modular approach is expected to provide greater production flexibility, allowing Syensqo to adjust its manufacturing mix according to changing customer requirements and market conditions. This capability could become increasingly important as automotive manufacturers seek advanced materials that support vehicle lightweighting, durability, thermal performance, and improved resistance to chemicals and harsh operating environments.

Syensqo’s aromatic polymer materials are used in demanding automotive applications where conventional materials may not deliver the required combination of mechanical strength, high-temperature resistance, chemical resistance, and weight reduction. Rising vehicle production, increasing localization of automotive supply chains, and the adoption of advanced engineering materials in India are expected to create additional opportunities for these polymers.

Tom Wood, VP Product and Asset Manager at Syensqo, highlighted India’s importance as a growth market for high-performance polymers. He emphasized that increasing local compounding capacity will allow the company to move production closer to customers, improve responsiveness, and provide greater flexibility across its aromatic polymer portfolio.

The investment also supports India’s broader manufacturing localization objectives under the government’s Make in India initiative. Syensqo already has manufacturing and Research & Innovation capabilities in the country, and the new project further strengthens its position in India and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Overall, the expansion reflects Syensqo’s strategy of increasing localized production while positioning its high-performance polymer portfolio closer to key growth markets and customers.

Impact on Products & Chemical Commodity Prices

The expansion should have a positive impact on Syensqo’s PPS, PEEK, PPA, and PARA products, primarily by improving local availability, shortening lead times, and reducing dependence on imported compounded grades in India. Higher domestic capacity could strengthen Syensqo’s competitiveness and support faster adoption among automotive manufacturers. For the broader chemical commodities tracked by ChemAnalyst, the price impact is likely to be limited initially, as the additional capacity will only come online in Q1 2028. Over the longer term, greater local availability of aromatic engineering polymers could exert mild downward pressure on import-dependent prices, while stronger automotive demand may partially offset this effect.
