These innovative materials are engineered to deliver exceptional sealing integrity in the most extreme environments, supporting the industry's drive toward greater performance and environmental responsibility.
Syensqo, a global specialty materials company, today announced a significant expansion of its cutting-edge Non-Fluorosurfactant (NFS) perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) portfolio, introducing a series of new grades specifically designed for high-temperature and high-purity applications. This launch marks Syensqo’s most substantial technical advancement in elastomer capabilities in nearly a decade, reinforcing the company's dual commitment to breakthrough performance and enhanced sustainability.
The new NFS FFKM materials are engineered to deliver unparalleled sealing performance in the most demanding industrial and electronics environments. These innovative grades boast continuous operating temperatures up to an impressive 320 degree Celsius, a capability that significantly surpasses that of many conventional FFKM materials currently on the market. This leap in thermal stability is achieved through a newly developed, proprietary curative designed to withstand extreme heat, which allows these grades to maintain unmatched purity and reliability without relying on traditional particle-causing fillers.
Syensqo’s high-temperature NFS FFKM grades are particularly well-suited for critical high-purity, high-temperature vacuum applications, notably within the burgeoning semiconductor industry. Their formulation provides excellent resistance to aggressive media, including fluorine, oxygen, and hydrogen plasmas—conditions that rapidly degrade standard sealing materials. Furthermore, the materials exhibit desirable low stiction properties and offer high reliability, making them an ideal choice for sensitive components like gate and isolation valve applications. By reducing the frequency of seal failure, these new FFKM grades are set to significantly decrease maintenance requirements and costly downtime for manufacturers.
Andrew Lau, Senior Executive Vice President of Electronics & Industrial at Syensqo Specialty Polymers, emphasized the significance of this launch. “The introduction of our new high temperature NFS FFKM resin represents Syensqo's biggest leap in elastomer technical capabilities in nearly a decade. By enabling new, higher temperature processes and decreasing downtime for mature processes, Syensqo continues to bring innovation and value to our customers, while also prioritizing advancements in sustainability,” he said.
Manufactured at Syensqo’s facility in Spinetta, Italy, the expanded NFS FFKM portfolio is the culmination of a multi-year, dedicated research and development effort focused on integrating high performance with environmental responsibility. The Non-Fluorosurfactant (NFS) designation is central to this commitment, as it addresses industry demand for more sustainable materials by eliminating fluorosurfactants from the manufacturing process.
The first high-temperature product, Tecnoflon® PFR X6965M, is currently available for sampling.
