Syensqo introduces Rhodasurf® B7 UP, a sustainable surfactant reducing carbon footprint, enabling eco-friendly detergents without reformulation or performance compromise.

Syensqo has broadened its portfolio of laundry care ingredients with the introduction of Rhodasurf® B7 UP, an innovative surfactant designed to support the transition toward more sustainable cleaning formulations. This new product is a naturally derived laureth-7 surfactant that enables manufacturers to create liquid laundry detergents and hard surface cleaners with a significantly reduced environmental footprint, without compromising on performance or requiring major formulation changes.

Rhodasurf® B7 UP is manufactured at Syensqo’s advanced on-pipe ethoxylation facility located in Moerdijk. This production site has recently achieved ISCC PLUS mass-balance certification, a globally recognized standard that verifies the use of sustainable and traceable raw materials across the supply chain. By leveraging this certified process, Syensqo ensures that the product aligns with stringent sustainability benchmarks while maintaining industrial-scale efficiency.

One of the most notable advantages of Rhodasurf® B7 UP is its ability to act as a direct “drop-in” replacement for conventional petrochemical-based laureth-7 surfactants. This means that detergent manufacturers can adopt the product seamlessly without reformulating existing products or disrupting established supply chains. Such compatibility significantly lowers the barrier to entry for brands aiming to improve sustainability credentials while maintaining operational continuity.

The surfactant is produced using bio-circular and upcycled ethylene oxide feedstocks, which are derived from renewable or waste-based sources rather than virgin fossil materials. Despite this shift in raw material sourcing, Rhodasurf® B7 UP delivers equivalent technical specifications and functional performance compared to traditional alternatives. It provides strong detergency, effective wetting properties, and reliable solubilization capabilities—key attributes required for high-performance cleaning products.

In addition to maintaining performance standards, the product offers a major environmental benefit: it reduces the net carbon dioxide (CO2) footprint by more than 90% compared to standard petrochemical-derived surfactants. This substantial reduction supports consumer goods companies in meeting increasingly ambitious climate targets and regulatory requirements, while also addressing growing consumer demand for eco-friendly products.

Rhodasurf® B7 UP is also compatible with widely recognized sustainability certifications such as Ecocert and Ecolabel, making it easier for brands and private label manufacturers to position their products within the natural and environmentally responsible segment. As consumer awareness of sustainability continues to rise, such certifications play a crucial role in influencing purchasing decisions and enhancing brand credibility.

The product is part of Syensqo’s UP Circular Solutions portfolio, which is built on a circular mass-balance approach. This methodology integrates upcycled and renewable raw materials into production systems while preserving the performance and quality expected from conventional chemical products. Through this approach, Syensqo aims to bridge the gap between sustainability and functionality, enabling customers to transition toward greener solutions without trade-offs.

Overall, the launch of Rhodasurf® B7 UP highlights Syensqo’s ongoing commitment to innovation in sustainable chemistry. By offering a high-performance, lower-carbon alternative that integrates seamlessly into existing formulations, the company is empowering manufacturers to accelerate their sustainability journeys and respond effectively to evolving market and environmental demands.
