Technip Energies advances Commonwealth LNG project with key equipment orders, supporting modular construction and progress toward final investment decision.
Technip Energies has secured a major authorization from Commonwealth LNG that enables the placement of purchase orders for critical long-lead equipment required for a large-scale liquefied natural gas export terminal in the United States. The authorization relates to Commonwealth LNG’s planned 9.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) LNG facility to be developed in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, and represents an important step forward in the project’s overall execution strategy.
The authorization forms part of the broader engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract that Technip Energies previously signed with Commonwealth LNG. It signals tangible progress toward the project’s final investment decision (FID), which is currently targeted for the first quarter of 2026. By allowing early procurement of essential equipment, the project partners aim to de-risk the schedule and maintain momentum as financing and regulatory processes continue in parallel.
The newly issued purchase orders focus on long lead time equipment that is essential for Commonwealth LNG’s modular construction strategy. This approach is designed to accelerate construction timelines and enhance cost certainty by relying on standardized, repeatable designs. Among the key suppliers selected are several globally recognized technology leaders. Baker Hughes has been contracted to provide six mixed-refrigerant compressors powered by LM9000 gas turbines, which play a central role in the liquefaction process. Honeywell will supply six main cryogenic heat exchangers, a core component of LNG production that enables efficient cooling of natural gas to liquefaction temperatures. In addition, Solar Turbines will deliver four Titan 350 gas turbine-generator sets to support reliable onsite power generation.
According to Technip Energies, the authorization underscores the strength of collaboration between the company and Commonwealth LNG. Arnaud Pieton, Chief Executive Officer of Technip Energies, highlighted that the placement of these critical equipment orders represents another meaningful milestone on the path to FID. He emphasized that the progress reflects a shared commitment to delivering a high-quality, world-class modular LNG facility capable of strengthening energy security and responding to rising global demand for natural gas and LNG. Pieton also noted that Technip Energies continues to apply its deep expertise in modular project execution to help clients deliver large energy infrastructure projects more efficiently and predictably.
From the developer’s perspective, the authorization also demonstrates strong financial and strategic commitment to the project. David Lawler, Chief Executive Officer of Caturus, described the equipment procurement authorization as a significant capital investment milestone. Alongside ongoing financing efforts, it illustrates Caturus’ determination to advance Commonwealth LNG as a global-scale LNG platform. Lawler added that the project is a cornerstone of Caturus’ wellhead-to-water strategy and represents another concrete step toward building a leading independent and integrated natural gas company in the United States.
The Commonwealth LNG facility is designed with a nameplate capacity of 9.5 Mtpa and will feature six identical liquefaction trains. Each train will be based on Technip Energies’ SnapLNG by T.EN™ modular and scalable solution. By replicating a single, proven design across all six trains, the SnapLNG concept enables faster execution, improved cost optimization, and greater certainty during construction and operations. This standardized approach is intended to support Commonwealth LNG’s ambition to deliver a competitive, reliable, and timely LNG export project serving global markets.
