Technip Energies wins Coral Norte FLNG contract, leveraging replica design to boost efficiency, capacity, and strengthen Mozambique’s LNG export potential globally.

Technip Energies has secured a major contract to advance the Coral Norte Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) project offshore Mozambique, reinforcing its position in the global LNG infrastructure sector. The award has been granted by Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV), a joint venture in which Eni holds participation. The project is being executed in collaboration with key partners, including JGC Holdings Corporation and Samsung Heavy Industries, highlighting a strong international consortium driving this development.

Coral Norte represents a landmark step in Mozambique’s energy journey, as it will become the country’s second floating LNG facility. The contract builds upon earlier agreements covering initial or “early works,” signaling steady progress and continued commitment to delivering the project at scale. This phased approach demonstrates how large-scale energy developments are increasingly structured to reduce risk and maintain execution efficiency.

A significant milestone in the project timeline has already been achieved, with the hull launch taking place on January 16, 2026, in Geoje, South Korea. This progress underscores the effectiveness of the “replica” concept being applied to Coral Norte. The facility is designed as an enhanced version of the successful Coral Sul FLNG project, leveraging the same gas field characteristics and offshore location. By replicating a proven design while integrating lessons learned from prior execution, the project aims to accelerate delivery timelines while minimizing technical and operational uncertainties.

The adoption of this replication strategy offers multiple advantages. It reduces engineering complexity, enhances construction efficiency, and improves overall project predictability. Additionally, Coral Norte is expected to deliver increased LNG production capacity and optimized operational performance compared to its predecessor. This approach reflects a broader trend within the LNG sector, where companies are focusing on scalable, repeatable solutions to meet rising global energy demand while controlling costs and risks.

From a strategic perspective, the Coral Norte project plays a crucial role in strengthening Mozambique’s position as an emerging LNG exporter. It also contributes to global energy security by diversifying supply sources and supporting long-term demand for natural gas, which continues to be viewed as a key transitional fuel in the global energy mix.

Commenting on the development, Loïc Chapuis, President of Project Delivery & Services at Technip Energies, emphasized that the award reflects the company’s engineering excellence and ability to execute complex projects with consistency and reliability. He highlighted that building on the success of Coral Sul not only reinforces Technip Energies’ collaboration with Eni and its Area 4 partners but also demonstrates its leadership in delivering innovative LNG solutions worldwide.

Overall, the Coral Norte FLNG project exemplifies how technological replication, strong partnerships, and strategic planning can drive efficient and scalable energy infrastructure development, positioning Mozambique as a key player in the global LNG market.
