TechnipFMC wins major Ithaca Energy contract to design and install flexible risers and subsea hardware, enhancing production at the Captain field.

TechnipFMC has secured a significant new contract from Ithaca Energy, marking another important milestone in their long-standing partnership on subsea oil and gas projects in the U.K. North Sea. The award covers the delivery of flexible risers for further development of the Captain field, a mature offshore asset that has seen ongoing technological investment and operational enhancements since commencing production in 1997.

Under the terms of the contract, TechnipFMC will be responsible for the complete design, engineering, manufacturing, and installation of a suite of flexible risers, flowlines, and associated subsea hardware. These components play a central role in connecting subsea wells to surface production facilities, allowing for the safe and efficient transport of hydrocarbons. The use of flexible pipe systems is particularly important in dynamic offshore environments, where durability, adaptability, and reliability are essential to maintaining stable production.

The Captain field has undergone several phases of optimization and modernization across its lifetime. Most notably, the field has benefited from an enhanced oil recovery (EOR) program aimed at maximizing extraction from the reservoir. The second phase of this EOR initiative, executed in 2024 and supported by TechnipFMC technologies and services, introduced advanced techniques to boost recovery efficiency and extend the productive life of the asset. This new contract continues the momentum of those previous upgrades by introducing further improvements to subsea infrastructure.

Commenting on the award, Jonathan Landes, President of Subsea at TechnipFMC, emphasized the strength and continuity of the collaboration with Ithaca Energy. He noted that the company has worked alongside Ithaca on multiple subsea developments for more than ten years, demonstrating an established foundation of trust, operational knowledge, and shared project experience. Landes highlighted that on the Captain project, the two companies cooperated closely to refine the subsea layout and develop an optimized flexible riser configuration tailored to support improved production performance.

He further expressed enthusiasm for deepening this collaborative relationship as Ithaca Energy continues to advance its future development plans in the region. According to Landes, this newest contract reinforces TechnipFMC’s position as a key partner for operators seeking technologically robust, integrated, and cost-efficient subsea solutions. The company’s expertise in flexible pipe systems—combined with its ability to execute full lifecycle services from concept engineering to offshore installation—positions it well to deliver high-value outcomes in demanding offshore environments such as the North Sea.

The contract also reflects the broader industry trend toward revitalizing mature offshore fields through targeted investments in new infrastructure and advanced recovery technologies. As operators look to maximize output while maintaining operational safety and environmental performance, subsea upgrades like flexible risers and enhanced flowline architectures continue to play a crucial role. With this award, TechnipFMC strengthens its portfolio of North Sea projects and further contributes to sustaining long-term production in one of the region’s legacy fields.
