This new contract, awarded to Thermax's subsidiary, Thermax Babcock & Wilcox Energy Solutions (TBWES), strengthens the long-standing partnership between the two industrial giants and underscores Thermax's critical role in advancing Africa's energy independence.
Thermax Group, a leading energy and environment solutions provider, announced today that it has received a landmark order exceeding Rs.580 crore (more than $70 million) from Dangote Industries, Africa’s largest conglomerate. The contract is for the supply of four 400 TPH high-pressure utility boilers and their associated systems, which are essential for the operations of the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in Lekki, Nigeria.
The scope of the order is comprehensive, covering end-to-end project execution. This includes project management, detailed engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and the supply of plug-and-play boiler modules. Critically, TBWES will also provide supervision of construction and commissioning at the site. The delivery period for these high-capacity, oil and gas-fired bi-drum boilers is expected to be 22 months.
The latest contract is a clear affirmation of the trusted, long-standing relationship between Thermax and Dangote Industries, which dates back to 2017.
• Initial Engagement: The partnership began with a major contract, publicly disclosed at the time, valued at approximately $157 million, where Thermax supplied a range of equipment including boilers, Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs), and flue gas steam generators for the same refinery project.
• Ongoing Support: Since the initial order, Thermax has continued to support the Dangote Group with the installation, commissioning, and modernisation of its critical boiler systems, building a legacy of excellence and reliable solutions.
Ashish Bhandari, MD & CEO, Thermax, commented on the deal, expressing his satisfaction: “We are glad to receive this order from Dangote Industries, supporting its aspiration to advance Africa’s energy independence and energy security.” He added that the prestigious contract is a reflection of the "trust in our expertise, quality standards, and ability to execute complex projects.”
Echoing this sentiment, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Founder and President, Dangote Industries, praised the enduring collaboration. “We are proud to continue our long-standing partnership with Thermax, whose expertise and reliable solutions have been instrumental in the success of our projects,” he stated, emphasizing that the collaboration "reflects the legacy of trust and excellence we have built together over the years.”
The Dangote refinery, already the largest single-train refinery in the world, has a current capacity of 650,000 barrels oil per day (bpd). It is a vital project for Nigeria, designed to meet 100% of the country’s domestic refined product requirements with a surplus for export, thereby securing the nation's energy future.
