TGV SRAAC partners with thyssenkrupp nucera to expand caustic soda output by 50% using advanced electrolysis technology.

TGV SRAAC Ltd., a major player in India’s caustic soda industry and formerly known as Sree Rayalaseema Alkalies and Allied Chemicals Ltd., has once again partnered with thyssenkrupp nucera to undertake a significant expansion of its chlor-alkali facilities in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The collaboration centers around the supply and implementation of thyssenkrupp nucera’s proprietary cell elements and a comprehensive engineering package, which includes electrolyzers and related equipment within the cell room infrastructure.

As part of the new contract, TGV SRAAC has opted for thyssenkrupp nucera’s latest eBiTAC® v7 technology. This advanced iteration of the proven BiTAC® bipolar ion exchange membrane electrolyzer stands out for its high energy efficiency and safety, supporting low-energy consumption during caustic soda production. The new system aims to enhance operational sustainability while delivering top-tier performance in chlor-alkali electrolysis.

This technological upgrade is critical to TGV SRAAC’s strategy to boost its production capacity by 50%, from the current 1,000 tons per day to 1,500 tons per day. Once the expansion is complete, the plant will have the capacity to produce up to 500,000 tons of caustic soda annually. This marks a substantial leap in output for the flagship company of the TGV Group and aligns with its growth vision in the Indian chemicals sector.

Chairman of the TGV Group, T.G. Venkatesh, expressed strong support for the project, describing it as a "watershed moment" in the company’s history. He emphasized the organization’s confidence in thyssenkrupp nucera’s cutting-edge technology and conveyed his optimism about the delivery of a state-of-the-art facility that meets the company's high standards and expectations.

The relationship between TGV SRAAC and thyssenkrupp nucera dates back more than two decades. Their first major collaboration began in 2004, when the German company supplied bipolar membrane electrolyzers for an earlier expansion phase. Since then, thyssenkrupp nucera has consistently contributed to the scaling up of TGV SRAAC’s production capabilities, reinforcing a trusted partnership over the years.

Dr. Roland Beckmann, Executive Director of Chlor-Alkali at thyssenkrupp nucera, acknowledged the continued trust placed by TGV SRAAC in their technology and expertise. He highlighted the synergies across thyssenkrupp’s global offices, particularly the coordination between teams in China and India, which played a key role in winning and preparing for the project.

Kiran Joseph, interim CEO and CFO of thyssenkrupp nucera India, reiterated the company's pride in being selected for this prestigious initiative. He underlined their ability to provide integrated “under-one-roof” solutions, including engineering, execution, and after-sales services tailored for the chlor-alkali industry.
