Welcome To ChemAnalyst
July 2026 opened with a firm tone in the US Povidone market as pharmaceutical formulators initiated Q3 excipient restocking ahead of the winter prescription season. Steady demand for Povidone K-30 in tablet binder applications continued to support CFR Houston offers, while rising China FOB Shanghai NVP-linked costs were expected to translate into higher landed costs. Importers actively passed through upstream tightness to buyers, helping maintain a positive outlook for Povidone prices during the first half of July.
US Povidone prices rose 1.86% in June 2026 as a combination of elevated logistics costs and tight landed availability in Houston supported a modest upward move. Early-month defensive buying in May left downstream inventories lean by June, while surging transpacific freight rates from mid-May through mid-June pushed replacement costs for imported Povidone significantly higher. Although late-month destocking by cash-conscious buyers limited further gains, constrained spot availability and extended transit lead times kept sellers firm. As a result, average Povidone K-30 CFR Houston prices increased month over month, according to ChemAnalyst data.
Demand for Povidone remained supported across key downstream industries. The pharmaceutical, dietary supplement, and personal-care sectors continued to serve as the primary demand drivers. Strong consumption of Povidone in tablet binder applications, excipient formulations, and personal-care products sustained healthy offtake levels. Pharmaceutical manufacturers and supplement producers maintained procurement activity to support seasonal production schedules, while personal-care demand remained broadly stable. However, toward the end of June, Povidone purchasing activity softened as manufacturers adopted cautious inventory strategies and relied on existing Houston warehouse stocks.
On the supply side, Povidone market pressures were driven primarily by logistics rather than feedstock costs. N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP), the key raw material for Povidone, remained relatively stable during June. However, sharp increases in east-bound container freight rates and transpacific shipping costs significantly raised landed import expenses. A substantial increase in Shanghai-to-Los Angeles container rates, coupled with vessel diversions around the Cape of Good Hope and terminal congestion, extended delivery times and reduced effective availability. These disruptions depleted local inventories and increased replacement costs for imported Povidone. No major production disruptions were reported within the US Povidone supply chain.
Looking ahead through July 2026, the Povidone market is expected to remain firm, supported by ongoing Q3 excipient restocking, stable pharmaceutical demand, and higher import replacement costs. While moderate demand fluctuations and seasonal factors may influence procurement patterns later in the year, continued freight volatility and potential NVP cost pressures are likely to keep the overall Povidone market on a stable-to-firm trajectory.
