TMD Energy Ltd., along with its subsidiaries in Malaysia and Singapore, announced a strategic expansion into oil waste collection, reinforcing its commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals. The company, known for its integrated bunkering services including ship-to-ship marine fuel transfers, vessel chartering and ship management, will now collect waste oils such as sludge oil and used cooking oil for resale to third-party processors of biodiesel.
This initiative represents a key component of the company's broader ESG strategy and offers a new revenue stream. By collecting residual oils from maritime operations and the food industry, TMD aims to support biodiesel production while promoting sustainable waste management practices. The move also aligns with Malaysia’s national strategy to increase renewable energy adoption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Following its recent successful initial public offering, TMD Energy is set to leverage its established logistics infrastructure and industry know-how to meet growing demand for environmentally responsible waste disposal solutions.
Driving Circular Economy and Innovation
Malaysia’s biodiesel industry is poised for expansion, backed by government incentives and rising demand for cleaner energy alternatives. TMD’s entry into the oil waste collection space positions it to capitalize on these trends and support the shift toward a circular economy.
“Our expansion into oil waste collection marks a strategic commitment to long-term environmental leadership,” said Dato’ Sri Kam Choy Ho, chairman and CEO of TMD Energy. “By working with maritime operators, food service businesses and environmental stakeholders, we are transforming waste into a renewable asset.”
The company plans to initially focus on collection and resale while targeting biodiesel processing and distribution in the near future. This phased approach allows TMD to build capacity while laying the groundwork to become a leading player in Southeast Asia’s green energy landscape.
“This initiative highlights our dual focus on operational excellence and ecological responsibility,” Kam said. “It is not just about diversification, but about redefining how we approach sustainability through practical, scalable action.”
He added that the expansion supports the company’s vision to be a leader in the bio-green industry without compromising on its commitment to high service standards.
“Each step we take is guided by our belief that economic growth and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand,” Kam said.
With this move, TMD Energy is positioning itself at the forefront of sustainable innovation in the region while reinforcing its role in shaping a greener future.
TMD Energy Limited and its subsidiaries are primarily engaged in providing marine fuel bunkering services, specializing in the supply and marketing of marine gas oil and various types of marine fuel oil—including high sulfur, low sulfur, and very low sulfur fuel oil—to ships and vessels at sea.
