Trelleborg begins new Bengaluru plant, boosting capacity, integrating operations, advancing R&D, supporting industries, sustainability, and regional economic growth in India.

Trelleborg Group AB, through its specialized division Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, has announced the construction of a new, cutting-edge manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. This greenfield project represents a significant expansion initiative, designed to boost the company’s production capacity by approximately 30 percent. Spread across an expansive campus of about 50,000 square meters (540,000 square feet), the facility is expected to be completed by 2027. For the first time, the site will integrate a wide range of operations, including manufacturing, research and development, testing laboratories, application engineering, a Customer Solutions Center, supply chain management, and global IT services—all consolidated within a single location.

The company’s journey in Bengaluru began in 2005, when it established its first manufacturing unit to cater to both domestic and international markets with high-performance sealing solutions. Over the past two decades, Trelleborg has experienced steady and sustainable growth in India. This progress has been driven by strong engineering capabilities, an emphasis on localization, rising market demand, close collaboration with customers, and India’s increasing importance in global supply chains. The new facility will include 30,000 square meters (323,000 square feet) of built-up area, equipped with advanced manufacturing technologies. These capabilities will cover a wide array of products such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) components, rotary shaft seals, mechanical face seals, and polyurethane-based sealing solutions, serving industries worldwide. With this development, the company positions itself among a select group of multinational corporations capable of producing a diverse and comprehensive product range locally for both Indian and global customers.

A key highlight of the project is the dedicated Research and Development Center, which is designed to provide fast and high-quality support to clients. This advanced hub will include a fully equipped materials laboratory as well as testing and technology facilities. These resources will enable detailed analysis, rigorous product testing, and the execution of development projects aligned with the company’s long-term strategic goals. The facility is being designed to meet international standards and will operate under globally recognized certifications such as AS/EN 9100, IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. It will cater to a wide range of industries, including aerospace, agriculture, automotive, construction, fluid power, industrial automation, oil and gas, energy, railways, and semiconductors.

The campus is also being developed with a strong focus on sustainability, safety, and energy efficiency, aiming to set new benchmarks in environmentally responsible manufacturing. In addition to enhancing operational capabilities, the investment is expected to create hundreds of employment opportunities, contribute to regional economic growth, and help build advanced manufacturing expertise for the future. M. B. Patil, India’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, extended his best wishes for the project, emphasizing the Karnataka government’s continued support through progressive industrial policies and a business-friendly environment.

The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Jürgen Bosch, Business Area President of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, and KJ Tan, President of Operations for Asia Pacific. They were joined by the Indian leadership team, including Managing Director Raghavendra Nagaragadde and General Manager Vinay Balakrishnan. Their presence underscored the company’s strong commitment to expanding its footprint in the region. According to Bosch, the new facility represents a major milestone, as it will unify multiple teams and operations under one roof, strengthening collaboration and efficiency.
