UGEL leads India’s LNG retail network, providing low-emission fuel, scalable stations, EV readiness, and nationwide sustainable mobility infrastructure.

Ultra Gas & Energy Ltd (UGEL), a strategic venture by Essar, has established itself as the largest private operator of liquefied natural gas (LNG) refuelling stations in India, now boasting six fully operational outlets along major freight corridors. These stations are strategically positioned in Bhilwara (Rajasthan), Anand (Gujarat), Chakan-Pune (Maharashtra), Jalna (Maharashtra), Toranagallu (Karnataka), and Vallam (Tamil Nadu), ensuring seamless access to cleaner fuels across India’s industrial and logistics hubs.

As a forward-looking clean-technology company, UGEL is spearheading the creation of India’s most extensive LNG fuelling network, playing a crucial role in the country’s transition toward low-emission, sustainable transportation. By building a robust LNG delivery ecosystem and offering an affordable, low-carbon alternative for commercial fleets, UGEL is driving significant environmental and economic benefits, while reinforcing India’s green mobility ambitions.

Each UGEL retail outlet is designed to be future-ready, featuring integrated infrastructure to accommodate electric vehicle (EV) charging. This multi-fuel approach highlights the company’s long-term vision of providing diversified, low-emission energy solutions. By enabling fleet operators to shift from diesel and other high-emission fuels to cleaner alternatives such as LNG and electricity, UGEL is supporting both the environmental and operational efficiency goals of its customers.

The company has set an ambitious target to expand its network to 100 LNG refuelling stations across India, underpinned by a planned investment of ?900 crore. Expansion is already underway in key states including Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Karnataka, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand. This planned network will create a nationwide infrastructure capable of supporting India’s clean energy and sustainable transport objectives.

Maqsood Shaikh, Managing Director & CEO of UGEL, remarked, “Our retail outlets are not just fuel stations—they are catalysts for a cleaner, smarter logistics ecosystem. Through robust infrastructure and intelligent energy solutions, we are proud to lead India’s shift toward greener fuels and sustainable mobility. Our vision is deeply rooted in innovation, efficiency, and environmental stewardship.”

Strategically located to serve high-density logistics zones, each UGEL station is accelerating the shift from diesel to LNG, a cleaner, more efficient fuel for long-haul transport. Each outlet has a scalable refuelling capacity of 50 tonnes, capable of servicing up to 600 LNG trucks per month. These stations can collectively reduce approximately 1 million tonnes of CO2 annually, with each station alone cutting up to 66,000 tonnes of emissions per year.

To ensure uninterrupted operations and consistent supply, UGEL has formed partnerships with major LNG suppliers including IOCL, GAIL, and HPCL. The company also maintains access to all of India’s significant LNG terminals, providing the operational flexibility required for scalable and reliable fuel distribution.

UGEL’s leadership in the LNG sector underscores its commitment to sustainable, low-emission transportation and positions the company as a critical enabler of India’s green mobility revolution.
