US Aluminium Trihydrate Prices Fall 1.79% as Comfortable Imports Pressure the Market

Alan Garner 18-Aug-2026
Aluminium Trihydrate CFR Houston prices declined 1.79% month-on-month in July 2026. The decline occurred despite rising production costs, as caustic soda prices increased by 2.45% during the month. Higher caustic soda costs raised the conversion expenses associated with Aluminium Trihydrate production and provided some support to supplier pricing. However, this cost pressure was outweighed by comfortable import availability and subdued downstream demand.Brazilian primary-alumina availability remained sufficient to support export flows into the U.S. Gulf Coast, while stable production operations prevented a significant tightening of Aluminium Trihydrate supply. On the demand side, construction-related consumption remained weak because of project delays, while wire-and-cable and electrical-equipment manufacturers mainly purchased against existing contracts. Engineered-polymer compounders also avoided aggressive spot procurement as inventories remained adequate. Consequently, suppliers were unable to fully pass higher feedstock costs through to buyers. Looking ahead, higher caustic soda costs could limit further price declines, but Aluminium Trihydrate values are likely to remain under pressure unless downstream demand strengthens, inventories tighten or Brazilian export availability is disrupted.

Aluminium Trihydrate CFR Houston prices declined further in July ****, falling *.*** month-on-month to $***.**/MT from $***.**/MT in June. The decline occurred despite higher production costs, as the price of caustic soda, a key feedstock for Aluminium Trihydrate production, increased by *.*** during the month. The rise in caustic soda costs increased producers’ conversion expenses and provided some support to Aluminium Trihydrate offers. However, this cost pressure was insufficient to reverse the broader bearish market trend because import availability remained comfortable and downstream buyers continued to purchase cautiously. Brazilian supply remained accessible to the U.S. Gulf Coast, while stable operating conditions at exporting plants prevented a significant tightening of Aluminium Trihydrate availability.

Demand for Aluminium Trihydrate remained subdued across major downstream applications during July. Construction-related consumption stayed weak as project delays and cautious investment limited requirements for flame-retardant fillers. Wire-and-cable and electrical-equipment manufacturers continued...
