Supply constraints in India remained the primary factor behind the rise in Castor Oil prices. Delayed monsoon rains slowed sowing activity, leaving planted acreage well below the previous year and reducing castor bean availability for processors. Lower raw material supplies curtailed crude Castor Oil production and limited export allocations, while pre-monsoon inventory drawdowns left stocks at Indian ports relatively thin.
Logistics also played an important role in strengthening the Castor Oil market. Higher container freight rates increased landed costs for cargoes arriving in the United States. Freight rates on the Asia–North America West Coast route increased by 80.08% month-on-month in June 2026, reflecting tight vessel availability and higher carrier charges. Toward the end of June, renewed geopolitical tensions in the Middle East introduced additional uncertainty regarding shipping routes and marine insurance, prompting importers to secure material early to avoid potential supply disruptions.
Demand for Castor Oil remained healthy across several downstream industries. The specialty polymers and polyamides sector emerged as the strongest demand driver during June, supported by capacity expansion at a domestic specialty polymer facility that encouraged forward procurement of castor-based feedstock. Buyers increased purchases to secure raw material availability, reinforcing upward price momentum across the market.
Other downstream sectors provided steady support for Castor Oil consumption. Lubricant manufacturers maintained consistent procurement as industrial production remained stable, while personal care formulators continued routine purchasing to meet demand from cosmetics and specialty beauty products. Traders and distributors also replenished inventories in anticipation of potential supply disruptions during the monsoon season and the Atlantic hurricane period.
Market participants also closely monitored developments in global logistics and weather conditions, recognizing that any further disruption to Indian exports or international shipping could quickly tighten product availability. As a result, the Castor Oil market remained supported by supply-side concerns rather than exceptionally strong consumption growth.
According to Chemanalyst data, the Castor Oil market is expected to witness mixed price movements in the coming months. Continued tight export availability from India, evolving monsoon conditions, freight costs, and geopolitical risks affecting shipping routes are expected to support prices.
