Wood has been awarded a significant contract by TA’ZIZ to serve as the project management consultancy (PMC) for the UAE’s inaugural methanol production plant. This pioneering facility will be established in Al Ruwais Industrial City, located in Abu Dhabi, marking a major milestone in the country's industrial and clean energy ambitions.

The methanol plant, slated for completion by 2028, is set to become one of the largest globally, with a planned production capacity of 1.8 million tonnes per year. The project is notable not only for its scale but also for its adoption of cutting-edge clean energy technologies, aiming to rank among the most energy-efficient methanol plants worldwide. This aligns with the UAE's broader strategy of integrating sustainability and innovation into its industrial infrastructure.

Gerry Traynor, President of Eastern Hemisphere Projects at Wood, highlighted the significance of the contract, stating: “Wood continues to demonstrate its capability to deliver complex, large-scale projects across the Middle East, a region that remains central to our strategic growth. Our collaboration with TA’ZIZ underscores our deep expertise in downstream chemical developments and our robust project management credentials. We are honored to contribute to this landmark development for the UAE.”

As part of the consultancy agreement, Wood will deploy a team of approximately 40 project management professionals. These specialists will be backed by additional resources from the company’s regional energy transition hub. Together, they will work closely with TA’ZIZ’s appointed engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor to ensure the timely and efficient execution of the plant.

The appointment of Wood reflects confidence in the company’s ability to oversee large-scale industrial developments and manage multidisciplinary teams. Wood’s role will encompass overseeing all aspects of the project lifecycle—from early planning through to construction and commissioning—ensuring that quality, cost, and schedule targets are met.

This methanol facility represents a critical step forward in the UAE's efforts to enhance its industrial base while aligning with global sustainability goals. TA’ZIZ, an industrial services and chemicals development joint venture between ADNOC and ADQ, is leading this initiative as part of its mission to diversify the nation's economy and drive value creation through innovative industrial projects.

By combining local ambition with global expertise, this collaboration between TA’ZIZ and Wood is poised to set new standards in sustainable chemical production, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a leader in the energy transition and advanced manufacturing sectors.
