Wood, a global consulting and engineering firm, has secured approximately $100 million in contracts aimed at reducing gas flaring and improving carbon efficiency across several of Iraq’s largest oil fields.

The series of awards includes reimbursable contracts focused on delivering brownfield engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), and modification solutions. These projects support Iraq’s national goal of cutting gas flaring by 78% by the end of 2025, a critical component of the country’s broader environmental and energy strategy.

The contracts mark a continuation of Wood’s longstanding commitment to decarbonization in Iraq. The company has previously led the nation’s largest flare gas reduction initiative and has maintained a decades-long presence in the region, providing sustainable solutions to major oil and gas operators.

“These awards reflect our continued partnership with clients in Iraq to meet the country's energy goals,” said Ellis Renforth, president of operations for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Wood. “Our deep understanding of local infrastructure and operations allows us to enhance efficiency, reduce emissions and support critical production efforts.”

Wood will deliver the projects through its regional teams based in Iraq and the United Arab Emirates. To meet the demands of this work, the company plans to hire 60 additional employees.

The projects will focus on upgrading existing infrastructure to improve operational performance while reducing environmental impacts. By minimizing gas flaring, the initiative will help mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and promote more efficient resource use, aligning with global sustainability standards.

Wood’s role in these efforts reinforces its position as a key player in the energy transition in the Middle East. The company’s integrated solutions are designed to meet immediate client needs while contributing to long-term climate goals.

The flare gas reduction contracts demonstrate how engineering and consulting expertise can play a pivotal role in national and regional decarbonization agendas. With Iraq setting ambitious targets for 2025, strategic partnerships and proven technical capabilities, such as those offered by Wood, will be essential to delivering measurable progress.

Wood’s expanding footprint in Iraq also signals the growing demand for sustainable energy services in oil-rich nations looking to modernize infrastructure and reduce their environmental impact. As part of its commitment, Wood aims to ensure that operational efficiency and climate responsibility go hand in hand.

The company’s recruitment drive, paired with local project execution, underscores its dedication to investing in regional talent and long-term success in the Iraqi energy sector.
