Wood secured a QatarEnergy offshore contract from COOEC to design pipelines and subsea systems for the Bul Hanine EPIC2 project.

Wood has secured a major contract from China Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC) to provide detailed design services for QatarEnergy’s Bul Hanine EPIC2 offshore development project in Qatar. The project forms part of QatarEnergy’s broader strategy to strengthen production capacity and prolong the operational life of ageing offshore assets in the region.

Under the agreement, Wood will apply its extensive expertise in subsea engineering and flow assurance to support COOEC in developing an efficient and reliable design solution for the project’s complex offshore pipeline infrastructure. The engineering work is aimed at improving operational performance while ensuring long-term safety and integrity across the field’s subsea systems.

As part of the scope, Wood will be responsible for designing 25 offshore pipelines. The company will also manage critical engineering aspects related to pipeline crossings with existing offshore infrastructure to ensure safe interaction between assets. In addition, Wood will address thermal expansion challenges that can impact subsea pipelines over time, helping to maintain system stability and reliability throughout the field’s extended operating life.

Beyond pipeline engineering, Wood will also conduct crossing analysis for 15 umbilicals and two power cables associated with the project. These systems play a vital role in offshore operations by supporting communication, control, and power transmission between offshore facilities and subsea equipment. The detailed engineering work is expected to contribute significantly to the safe and efficient development of the Bul Hanine field.

Gerry Traynor, Regional President for the Middle East, Africa and Caspian at Wood, highlighted the company’s experience in delivering offshore detailed design solutions for technically challenging subsea projects. He noted that Wood’s collaboration with COOEC combines the strengths and expertise of both companies to help accelerate QatarEnergy’s goals of increasing production, extending field life, and enhancing the performance of ageing offshore assets.

Meanwhile, Wu Zhixing, Deputy Director of COOEC Engineering Company, stated that COOEC is pleased to continue serving as a trusted partner for QatarEnergy on the Bul Hanine EPIC2 project. He described the contract as another important milestone for the company, reinforcing its strong industry track record and further expanding its presence in the Middle East energy sector. According to Wu, the project also demonstrates COOEC’s capability to deliver reliable EPIC solutions for large-scale offshore developments.

The Bul Hanine EPIC2 project represents another significant step in ongoing offshore investment activity in Qatar, where operators are increasingly focused on boosting production efficiency and maximizing the value of mature energy assets through advanced engineering and infrastructure upgrades.
