Nitrobenzene is produced by the direct nitration of benzene using a nitric acid/sulphuric acid mixture. Nitrobenzene is a yellowish, oily, aromatic nitro-compound with an almond-like odor that emits toxic fumes of nitrogen oxides upon combustion. Major application for nitrobenzene include aniline which consumes almost 98% of all nitrobenzene. Major applications are for board and laminate insulation for both residential and commercial construction. Other major rigid foam outlets are for appliances, packaging, transportation and industrial insulation for tanks and pipes. Therefore, major end use industries for nitrobenzene include construction, appliances, packaging, transportation, industrial insulation etc. Growing demand of MDI based rigid polyurethane foam in construction sector is projected to drive the demand of nitrobenzene during the forecast period.
