Air Products will expand gas supply infrastructure for Samsung’s new semiconductor fab in Pyeongtaek, marking its largest semiconductor investment globally.
Air Products has announced a major expansion of its industrial gas supply capabilities to support Samsung Electronics in developing its next-generation semiconductor fabrication facility in Pyeongtaek. The agreement reinforces a long-standing partnership between the two companies and reflects the increasing scale and complexity of advanced semiconductor manufacturing.
As part of the deal, Air Products will design, construct, own, and operate a series of cutting-edge gas production units alongside a bulk specialty gas distribution system. These facilities will supply essential gases—including nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and hydrogen—which are critical to semiconductor fabrication processes such as wafer production, cleaning, and etching. The infrastructure will be deployed in multiple phases, with operations expected to commence progressively between 2028 and 2030, aligning with Samsung’s expansion timeline for its advanced chip manufacturing capacity.
This initiative marks a significant milestone for Air Products, representing its largest-ever investment in the semiconductor sector. The scale of the project will also transform Pyeongtaek into the company’s largest global operations hub dedicated to serving the electronics industry. Over the years, Air Products has played a key role in supporting Samsung’s manufacturing growth in the region, successfully executing multiple phased expansions to meet increasing demand. This new project builds upon that foundation, further strengthening its footprint in one of the world’s most important semiconductor clusters.
SR Kim, President of Air Products Korea, highlighted the importance of the collaboration, expressing appreciation for Samsung’s continued trust. He emphasized that the investment not only demonstrates Air Products’ leadership in the global semiconductor supply chain but also underscores its commitment to delivering high standards of safety, reliability, operational efficiency, and service excellence. The partnership is expected to contribute significantly to enabling Samsung’s strategic growth ambitions in advanced semiconductor technologies.
Air Products brings decades of expertise to the project, having served the global electronics industry for more than 40 years. The company has consistently supplied industrial gases to leading technology firms worldwide, ensuring safe and reliable operations in highly demanding manufacturing environments. Its presence in South Korea spans over 50 years, during which it has established a strong and trusted position across the electronics and broader manufacturing sectors.
The expansion in Pyeongtaek reflects broader industry trends, where semiconductor manufacturers are scaling up production capacity to meet growing global demand for chips used in applications ranging from consumer electronics to artificial intelligence and automotive technologies. Reliable access to high-purity industrial gases is a critical enabler of this growth, making partnerships like this essential to sustaining innovation and production efficiency.
Overall, the project highlights the deepening collaboration between Air Products and Samsung Electronics, positioning both companies to play a pivotal role in the future of semiconductor manufacturing.
