Amogy and LOTTE Fine Chemical will collaborate on green ammonia-to-hydrogen and ammonia-to-power applications across South Korea’s clean-energy infrastructure.

Amogy and LOTTE Fine Chemical Co., Ltd. (LFC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore the development and deployment of ammonia-to-hydrogen and ammonia-to-power solutions in South Korea. The collaboration combines Amogy’s ammonia cracking and power-generation technology with LFC’s extensive ammonia import, storage, distribution, and bunkering infrastructure.

LOTTE Fine Chemical operates one of Asia’s largest ammonia supply networks and has established a strong position in South Korea’s emerging clean-ammonia ecosystem. The company has achieved notable milestones, including the world’s first commercial import of green ammonia and the first domestic ship-bunkering supply using green ammonia. These capabilities provide an established foundation for expanding ammonia into new energy applications.

Amogy, meanwhile, has developed proprietary ammonia cracking technology designed to convert ammonia into hydrogen efficiently. The technology can produce high-purity hydrogen for applications including hydrogen refueling, while its ammonia-to-power systems can generate electricity for stationary, distributed, and marine applications.

Under the MOU, the companies will investigate opportunities across three major areas. The first is hydrogen refueling infrastructure, where LFC could supply green ammonia through its international procurement network and domestic infrastructure. Amogy’s cracking technology would then convert the ammonia into high-purity hydrogen directly at or near refueling stations, potentially reducing the need to transport hydrogen over long distances.

The second focus is distributed ammonia-to-power generation for commercial and community-scale facilities. LFC would provide ammonia supply, storage, and logistics, while Amogy would deploy modular power-generation systems based on fuel-cell or internal-combustion-engine configurations.

The third area is marine ammonia bunkering. The companies plan to assess supplying ammonia to vessels equipped with Amogy’s ammonia-to-power technology, leveraging LFC’s ammonia terminal at Ulsan Port and its existing ship-bunkering capabilities.

The partnership reflects South Korea’s broader efforts to establish clean ammonia and hydrogen infrastructure and expand low-carbon energy alternatives. By connecting ammonia supply and logistics with downstream conversion and power-generation technology, the collaboration could help accelerate commercial applications of ammonia as an energy carrier.

Following the MOU, Amogy and LFC will continue evaluating potential projects involving hydrogen refueling, distributed power generation, and marine bunkering. Specific project scopes, investment requirements, and execution timelines will be finalized as the collaboration progresses.

Chemical Price Impact

The move is strategically positive for ammonia and hydrogen, as broader adoption of green ammonia cracking could create additional downstream demand for ammonia as a hydrogen carrier and marine fuel. In the near term, actual commodity demand may remain limited because the MOU is still at the evaluation stage. If projects progress to commercial deployment, ammonia consumption could increase across refueling stations, distributed power generation, and marine bunkering, supporting ammonia prices in regional markets. Higher green-ammonia demand could also strengthen premiums for low-carbon ammonia, while greater hydrogen production may gradually improve supply availability and moderate hydrogen price pressures in South Korea.
