DuPont Introduces Enhanced Nanofiltration Solution for Efficient and Sustainable Drinking Water Treatment

William Faulkner 30-Mar-2026

DuPont launches advanced nanofiltration elements, improving energy efficiency, durability, and cost savings for municipalities delivering high-quality drinking water globally.

DuPont has introduced an enhanced version of its nanofiltration technology with the launch of the FilmTec™ NF270-400/34 nanofiltration elements, specifically developed to support municipalities and drinking water utilities in delivering cleaner, safer water while optimizing energy use and operational efficiency. This latest upgrade reflects the company’s continued focus on innovation in water treatment, aiming to address the growing global demand for sustainable and cost-effective purification solutions.

Building upon the well-established performance of FilmTec™ nanofiltration systems, the upgraded elements bring notable improvements in efficiency and operational reliability. One of the key advancements lies in energy performance. Compared to earlier versions, the new elements are capable of delivering the same level of water flux while reducing energy consumption by approximately 6–10%. In addition, they offer up to a 30% reduction in initial pressure drop, which further contributes to improved system efficiency and reduced strain on infrastructure. These enhancements translate into meaningful cost savings for utilities, particularly in large-scale municipal operations where energy expenses represent a significant portion of overall budgets.

The development comes at a time when municipalities worldwide are facing mounting challenges in ensuring access to safe and reliable drinking water. Rising energy costs, stricter regulatory requirements, and aging infrastructure are putting increased pressure on water utilities to find solutions that are both effective and economical. According to Dorie Yontz, Global Marketing Leader for Drinking Water and Desalination at DuPont Water Solutions, the upgraded nanofiltration elements are designed to directly address these concerns by enhancing energy efficiency, durability, and long-term operational performance.

Another important feature of the upgraded elements is their improved resistance to biofouling, a common issue in water treatment systems that can lead to reduced efficiency and increased maintenance requirements. By offering enhanced biofouling protection along with superior durability, the new elements help ensure more stable and consistent performance over extended periods. Their high permeability and ease of cleaning also contribute to reduced system downtime and lower cleaning frequency, enabling utilities to operate more efficiently and with fewer interruptions.

These combined benefits—ranging from energy savings to improved reliability—make the upgraded FilmTec™ NF270-400/34 elements a valuable solution for modern water treatment facilities. They not only support the production of high-quality drinking water but also help utilities achieve greater sustainability by lowering energy consumption and operational costs.

DuPont Water Solutions continues to play a significant role in the global water treatment landscape. Its technologies are currently used to purify more than 50 million gallons of water every minute across 112 countries. The company offers a comprehensive portfolio that includes membranes, resins, and integrated systems designed to address a wide array of challenges faced by municipal utilities, seawater desalination plants, and industrial users, including sectors such as microelectronics.

Beyond water purification, DuPont is also actively developing solutions that align with broader sustainability goals. Its innovations support critical industries such as energy production, lithium extraction, and green hydrogen development, helping to balance the increasing global demand for both water and energy resources. Through continuous advancements like the upgraded nanofiltration elements, the company is reinforcing its commitment to enabling efficient, reliable, and sustainable water management worldwide.
