Elevra Lithium Secures Price Floor in Canadian Supply Deal

Sydney-listed Elevra Lithium has secured a price-floor mechanism under an agreement to supply spodumene concentrate to a planned lithium processing facility in Canada. The arrangement strengthens the company’s position within North America’s emerging critical-minerals supply chain while offering greater protection against lithium price volatility.

Under the agreement, Elevra will provide spodumene concentrate from its lithium project in Québec to Mangrove Lithium’s planned conversion facility in Canada. The contract includes a minimum price designed to remain above Elevra’s anticipated production costs. However, the agreement does not include a price ceiling, and the specific price floor has not been disclosed.

Elevra is expected to provide the entire feedstock requirement for Mangrove’s planned conversion plant, which is designed to produce approximately 20,000 tonnes per year of lithium carbonate equivalent. The project remains subject to a final investment decision, while Export Development Canada, the Canada Growth Fund and other potential financial partners are expected to provide further support.

The agreement comes as governments and companies across Western countries accelerate efforts to establish domestic critical-mineral supply chains. Lithium has become strategically important because of its role in electric-vehicle batteries and energy-storage systems. At the same time, volatile lithium prices have created financial challenges for producers and raised concerns about the long-term viability of new mining projects.

Price floors have increasingly emerged as a potential solution for lithium producers seeking greater revenue visibility. Such mechanisms can provide miners with downside protection during periods of weak market prices while supporting investment in new capacity. In February, Australia-based PLS Group also signed a spodumene concentrate offtake agreement with Canmax Technologies that included a price floor.

The Elevra-Mangrove arrangement also reflects a broader push to develop lithium processing capacity outside China. Although China remains a dominant player across several stages of the global lithium supply chain, Western governments are seeking greater control over critical-mineral production and downstream processing.

Developing conversion capacity close to mining operations could reduce dependence on overseas processing and create a more resilient regional supply chain. Mangrove’s facility is therefore positioned as an important downstream component of Canada’s critical-minerals strategy.

The announcement also boosted investor sentiment toward Elevra. The company’s shares, which had already more than doubled over the previous 12 months, climbed as much as 6.1% following the announcement. The deal could improve revenue visibility for Elevra while strengthening the commercial outlook for its Québec lithium project.

Product Impact and Chemical Commodity Price Impact

The agreement is bullish for lithium and spodumene concentrate producers because the price floor provides revenue protection and can encourage investment in new mining capacity. For Elevra, it reduces downside exposure to lithium-price volatility and supports project economics. Mangrove’s planned 20,000-tonne-per-year lithium carbonate-equivalent facility could strengthen regional conversion capacity and reduce reliance on Chinese processing. In the near term, the deal could provide modest upward support to lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide and spodumene prices if it encourages additional Western procurement and supply-chain investment. However, the price impact is likely limited initially because the facility remains subject to a final investment decision and global lithium inventories remain important market drivers.
