Lhyfe, a pioneer in green hydrogen production, successfully completed Europe's first public crowdfunding campaign for the sector, raising €2.5 million from nearly 1,200 individuals to accelerate the decarbonization of mobility and industry. This initiative marks a significant step towards public involvement in the energy transition and demonstrates strong confidence in green hydrogen.
In a landmark achievement for the renewable energy sector, Lhyfe, a global pioneer in the production of green and renewable hydrogen, has successfully concluded Europe's first public crowdfunding campaign dedicated to green hydrogen production. The initiative saw unprecedented public participation, with nearly 1,200 individuals investing a total of €2.5 million to support the decarbonization of mobility and industry across France and Germany.
This groundbreaking campaign allowed members of the general public to directly finance the production of green hydrogen, investing sums ranging from €300 to €75,000. This enthusiastic response provides a powerful signal of public confidence in the green hydrogen sector and its potential to drive the energy transition. Beyond financial returns for bond subscribers, Lhyfe's initiative empowers citizens to contribute directly to the energy sovereignty and re-industrialization of local areas.
The crowdfunding results significantly exceeded typical figures for Lita.co fundraising campaigns, which usually average around €0.5 million from approximately 320 investors. This remarkable oversubscription highlights a growing public appetite for accessible investment formats that allow individuals to actively participate in climate action and the development of clean energy sources.
This successful fundraising effort provides solid support for Lhyfe’s ambitious growth trajectory. The company is rapidly expanding its production capacity, with sites increasing from 1 to 5 to 10 MW, and a 100 MW site on the horizon, aligning with the European Union's ambitious target of 40 GW of green hydrogen production capacity by 2030. Currently, Lhyfe operates four onshore sites in France and Germany, boasting a production capacity of up to 9 tonnes of green and renewable hydrogen per day, equating to over 20 MW of installed electrolysis capacity. The company reported quadrupled sales in 2024 compared to 2023, reaching €5.1 million.
Lhyfe's comprehensive financing strategy, which combines equity, grants, and bank financing, is crucial for supporting its project ramp-up. Since its inception in 2017, the company has raised nearly €184 million in equity capital and secured approximately €240 million in grants, including a significant €149 million grant for its flagship 100 MW Green Horizon project near Le Havre.
