This project, in collaboration with Elektra Power SRL, marks Metacon's first major contract in the Romanian market and is a significant step forward in the country's green energy transition.

Metacon AB has announced a significant development in its European expansion, having been selected as a supplier for a major hydrogen project in Romania. The company will deliver a 7.5 MW electrolysis plant to Elektra Power SRL, a Romanian firm specializing in renewable energy projects. The deal, valued at approximately EUR 7.1 million, is a testament to Metacon's growing presence in the green hydrogen sector and its ability to provide cost-effective and proven solutions for the production of fossil-free energy.

This landmark agreement is a key milestone for Metacon, marking its entry into the burgeoning Romanian market. The project will see the deployment of pressurized alkaline electrolyzers, a technology supplied through Metacon's partnership with PERIC Hydrogen Technology, a global leader in the field based in Handan, China. This collaboration allows Metacon to leverage PERIC's extensive experience and reliable technology while adapting the final product to meet European standards and requirements.

"I am very pleased to announce this first contract award for Metacon on the Romanian market," said Christer Wikner, President & CEO of Metacon. "This is another proof of trust in Metacon's ability to provide proven and cost-effective hydrogen production solutions for customers in different places and with varying requirements. I'm very much looking forward to collaborating with an energy pioneer like the Elektra Group in this project."

The selection of Metacon underscores the increasing momentum behind green hydrogen initiatives in Eastern Europe. Romania has a strong potential for renewable energy, with a national strategy targeting significant increases in electrolysis capacity by 2030. The country's National Recovery and Resilience Plan has allocated substantial funds to support such projects, aligning with broader EU goals to accelerate decarbonization and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Dan Oproescu, Managing Director of Elektra Power, commented on the partnership, "We continue to see strong future potential for green hydrogen and hydrogen applications in Romania as part of the future energy and fuel mix. We are pleased to team up with Metacon in this green hydrogen project."

The project will proceed with the customary finalization of a project contract between the parties. Once signed, the work will begin on the development and implementation of the electrolysis plant. The plant will play a crucial role in expanding Romania's green hydrogen infrastructure, contributing to the country’s ambitious decarbonization targets, and supporting the development of a sustainable energy ecosystem.
