Patagonia Lithium reached 200 metres at Cilon Well 8, reporting encouraging aquifer data while progressing toward its planned 600-metre drilling target.

Patagonia Lithium has achieved another operational milestone at its Formentera/Cilon Lithium Project in Argentina, with drilling at Cilon Well 8 successfully reaching a depth of 200 metres. The exploration campaign is progressing according to plan as the company continues to evaluate the lithium-bearing brine potential within the project area, which is situated in the lithium-rich Jujuy Province. The current drilling program is expected to continue until the borehole reaches its planned final depth of approximately 600 metres, enabling a more detailed assessment of subsurface geology and aquifer characteristics.

As drilling advances, Patagonia Lithium has completed six field packer tests designed to evaluate groundwater flow and collect preliminary hydrogeological information from different depth intervals. These tests provide early insights into the characteristics of the aquifer, although the lithium concentration itself will only be confirmed after laboratory analysis of collected brine samples.

According to the preliminary field data, specific gravity measurements increased steadily with depth, rising from 1.04 in the shallowest tested interval to 1.06 within the deepest tested section between 186 and 200 metres. Similarly, total dissolved solids (TDS) showed a gradual increase across the tested intervals, ranging from 37.61 parts per thousand in the shallower sections to 53.76 parts per thousand in the deepest sample collected so far. These trends suggest increasing salinity with depth, a factor commonly evaluated during lithium brine exploration programs.

The company also reported encouraging groundwater flow rates from the completed packer tests. Pumping rates varied between approximately 285.7 litres per hour and 705.9 litres per hour across the tested intervals. Management believes these results indicate that the aquifer possesses strong hydraulic characteristics capable of supporting continued exploration and future resource evaluation.

Executive Chairman Phillip Thomas stated that the company remains particularly focused on the deeper section of the well, specifically between depths of 250 metres and more than 400 metres. Based on geological interpretations, this interval is considered the most prospective for higher lithium concentrations, as lithium-bearing brines are expected to be more concentrated within these deeper aquifer zones. However, he emphasized that this interpretation remains preliminary until verified through independent laboratory assays.

Samples collected during drilling have been submitted for laboratory testing, with assay results expected within three to four weeks after submission. These analyses will determine the lithium concentrations and other important chemical parameters needed to assess the project's resource potential more accurately.

Geological logging of the drill core recovered from the 189 to 200 metre interval revealed that the section consists predominantly of unconsolidated fine brown sands, along with zones containing semi-consolidated and strongly consolidated sediments. Preliminary visual observations suggest quartz makes up roughly 86–88% of the recovered material, while halite crystals account for approximately 2–3%. The company cautioned that these visual mineral estimates are only indicative and should not be regarded as substitutes for detailed laboratory mineralogical analyses.

Drilling operations will continue beyond the current depth, with the next scheduled packer test planned once the borehole reaches approximately 210 metres. Following completion of drilling to the targeted 600-metre depth, Patagonia Lithium intends to conduct a comprehensive 72-hour pumping test to further evaluate aquifer productivity. Additional borehole magnetic resonance and gamma logging surveys are also planned to collect geophysical data that will enhance the understanding of the subsurface reservoir.

The results from the drilling program, hydrogeological testing, laboratory assays, and geophysical surveys will contribute to refining the geological model of the project and support an updated Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE).

The Formentera/Cilon Lithium Project spans approximately 19,500 hectares within the Salar de Jama basin, one of Argentina's prominent lithium exploration regions. The project's current Mineral Resource Estimate stands at 551,400 tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) with an average lithium grade of 294 milligrams per litre. Of this total, approximately 14,800 tonnes are classified as indicated resources with an average grade of 393 milligrams per litre lithium, while the remaining 536,600 tonnes are categorized as inferred resources averaging 292 milligrams per litre lithium. Continued exploration and deeper drilling are expected to provide additional information that could strengthen future resource assessments.

Impact of the News

The successful advancement of drilling at Patagonia Lithium's Cilon Well strengthens the project's long-term potential to expand lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) resources, supporting future lithium brine production for battery manufacturing. Although the development is positive for supply prospects, it is still in the exploration stage, and commercial production remains some time away. Therefore, there is unlikely to be any immediate impact on lithium product availability or market supply. For chemical commodities tracked by ChemAnalyst, lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide prices are expected to remain largely unchanged in the near term. Over the longer term, successful resource expansion could improve supply availability and exert downward pressure on lithium prices, particularly if supported by sustained production growth in Argentina.
