This alliance aims to bolster Stargate's manufacturing, R&D, and market reach, while supporting Repsol's ambitious decarbonization targets.

Stargate Hydrogen, a leading European innovator specializing in next-generation alkaline electrolysers for efficient and cost-effective green hydrogen production, announced today a pivotal alliance with Repsol, a prominent global integrated energy group headquartered in Spain. Through its Corporate Venture arm, Repsol has acquired a minority stake in Stargate Hydrogen's share capital, a move set to significantly strengthen Stargate's position as an international benchmark in technological leadership and competitiveness within the rapidly expanding renewable hydrogen sector.

This transaction builds upon Stargate's impressive momentum from earlier in 2025, when the company successfully secured an 11 million EUR A-round investment and inaugurated its cutting-edge new factory. The integration of Repsol as a key industry partner is expected to amplify this growth trajectory, providing the necessary impetus for Stargate to substantially expand its manufacturing capacity, accelerate crucial research and development initiatives, and fortify its commercial operations across key markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Marko Virkebau, CEO of Stargate Hydrogen, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "Repsol is the largest producer and consumer of hydrogen in Spain; therefore, it has extensive first-hand experience of the complexities of hydrogen projects. We are delighted that this partnership will allow us to work together on multiple fronts, from R&D and product development to commercial deployment of Stargate's innovative electrolyser technology." This sentiment underscores the collaborative nature of the alliance, aiming to leverage Repsol's deep industry knowledge and Stargate's technological prowess.

Echoing this optimism, Gema García, Director of Open Innovation and Corporate Venturing at Repsol, highlighted the strategic importance of the investment for Repsol's sustainability goals. "Renewable hydrogen is essential to our decarbonisation roadmap. What we are looking for are innovative approaches to its production, enabling more efficient production. We have closely followed Stargate Hydrogen's work in recent years and are confident that it can be a great ally for us to accelerate our renewable hydrogen developments," García remarked. Repsol has set an ambitious target to achieve between 600 MW and 700 MW of installed hydrogen capacity by 2030, making this investment a crucial step in realizing that vision.

At its core, this industry alliance is forged on a shared, overarching goal: to significantly reduce the cost of renewable hydrogen production. This cost reduction is vital for accelerating the decarbonisation of heavy industries, which are among the most challenging sectors to abate, and simultaneously enhancing Europe's energy independence in critical energy production technologies.
