SANY Group, a leading global equipment manufacturer, has marked a significant milestone in its international green energy strategy with the successful delivery of its first hydrogen refueling project to Australia. This pivotal move, announced on May 29, represents a major step forward in SANY's commitment to decarbonization and the global expansion of its advanced clean energy solutions.
The project, which saw SANY deliver custom-developed 200Nm³/h skid-mounted hydrogen producing and refueling equipment, is the culmination of a strategic partnership established in April 2024 with an Australian customer. This collaboration follows SANY's successful construction and operation of China's largest integrated production and hydrogen refueling station.
The delivered system showcases SANY's industry-leading flexible electrolysis hydrogen production technology, designed for stable and efficient operation. A key feature of the equipment is its dual-stage supercharging and hydrogen storage capabilities, allowing for refueling at both 50 MPa and 90 MPa. This versatility enables the single-unit system to simultaneously cater to the diverse needs of both 35 MPa commercial vehicles and 70 MPa passenger vehicles, ensuring rapid and safe refueling for a wide range of applications, from cargo transport to daily commuting.
Ensuring seamless integration into the Australian market, SANY meticulously adhered to stringent international and local standards during the production and deployment phases. The project has received comprehensive certification from both Bureau Veritas (BV) and TÜV SÜD, underscoring its compliance and safety. Notably, the equipment boasts AS 3000 Electrical Safety Certification, meeting Australia's highest Class 2 standard. Furthermore, its pressure vessels hold dual certification under ASME/AS1200, confirming adherence to both U.S. and Australian standards with an ASME U3 stamp, and exhibiting an impressive fatigue life exceeding 20,000 cycles. The system also passed the SAE J2601 Hydrogen Refueling Protocol Test, confirming its ability to refuel 70 MPa passenger vehicles within a remarkable three minutes, aligning with international filling standards.
SANY's commitment to safety is deeply embedded in its design-driven development process. Throughout the project's development, the team conducted rigorous risk evaluations and controls for both the PEM Hydrogen Production and Purification System and the High-Pressure Hydrogen Refueling System. These evaluations included comprehensive analyses such as Hazard Identification, Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), Safety Integrity Level (SIL), and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA). These proactive analytical approaches enabled early identification and mitigation of potential risks, establishing a robust foundation for the delivery of safe, intelligent, and resilient hydrogen solutions.
