SARCO and UAE’s Go Energy sign MoU to explore a green hydrogen-ammonia project in Saudi Arabia, enhancing sustainability strategy.

Saudi Arabia Refineries Company (SARCO) has announced a strategic collaboration with UAE-based Go Energy, aimed at advancing the development of a green hydrogen project, specifically focused on ammonia production, within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The two firms have formalized their intent through a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU), marking the beginning of a joint exploration into the potential of green hydrogen as a sustainable energy solution.

Under the terms of the MoU, SARCO and Go Energy have agreed to undertake a comprehensive joint study to assess and plan the proposed green hydrogen-ammonia project. This study will encompass technical, commercial, and regulatory aspects necessary to structure a viable and sustainable energy initiative. In addition to the feasibility assessment, the companies plan to work collaboratively on designing a legal and operational framework to facilitate their partnership and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards.

The MoU, which officially took effect on 11 October 2025, will remain valid for a period of one calendar year unless both parties agree in writing to an extension or modification. Importantly, SARCO clarified that the signing of this MoU does not involve any immediate financial commitments from either company. The agreement is intended to serve primarily as a platform for strategic collaboration, knowledge sharing, and preliminary project development.

This partnership aligns closely with SARCO’s broader corporate strategy to diversify and expand its energy-related offerings through specialized alliances within the sector. By leveraging such collaborations, SARCO aims to strengthen its position in emerging areas of the energy market, particularly in the transition towards sustainable and low-carbon energy solutions. The initiative is also indicative of Saudi Arabia’s growing focus on green hydrogen as a key component of its long-term energy diversification and sustainability goals.

Go Energy Group, headquartered in Umm Al Quwain, UAE, has built a reputation as an active investor across multiple sectors, with a growing portfolio in renewable energy and green hydrogen ventures. The company’s expertise and strategic investments in clean energy technologies are expected to complement SARCO’s operational capabilities and local market knowledge, creating a partnership designed to accelerate innovation and adoption in the green hydrogen domain.

Together, SARCO and Go Energy intend to explore the full potential of green hydrogen production, particularly ammonia-based applications, which are increasingly recognized for their role in enabling decarbonization across energy-intensive industries. Through this collaboration, both companies hope to contribute to the Kingdom’s sustainable energy roadmap while fostering cross-border investment and technology transfer in the renewable energy sector.
