US Polyacrylamide Prices Climb 2.43% in July as Supply Tightens

U.S. Polyacrylamide (PAM) prices increased 2.43% in July 2026 as strong municipal water treatment and oilfield demand coincided with tighter spot availability. Producers operated at high rates, but finite reactor capacity extended lead times and limited incremental supply. Higher acrylamide powder costs also strengthened production economics, while the temporary Xitao Polymer maintenance shutdown in China reduced global export availability and supported U.S. supplier pricing leverage. Looking ahead, prices are expected to rise through October as seasonal water-treatment demand, hurricane-related precautionary stocking, export competition, and firmer feedstock costs support the market. Prices are forecast to stabilize in November before increasing again toward year-end.

US PAM prices increased 2.43% in July 2026 as stronger seasonal demand coincided with tighter spot availability and disciplined producer allocations. Municipal water-treatment procurement strengthened during the summer season, while oilfield activity supported additional polymer consumption. At the same time, limited reactor availability and reduced Chinese export availability restricted incremental supply, allowing suppliers to maintain firmer offers.

Supply and demand dynamics provided a clear basis for the July increase in PAM prices. Municipal water and wastewater utilities increased procurement for sludge dewatering and treatment applications, while oilfield-service companies restocked anionic grades for summer fracturing campaigns. Export demand from Latin America, Canada, and Brazil also absorbed available volumes, reducing domestic spot PAM availability. Producers maintained high operating rates, but finite reactor capacity limited their ability to accommodate additional orders, extending lead times to approximately six to eight weeks. On the supply side, acrylamide powder prices edged higher, increasing polymerization costs and strengthening the cost floor for PAM. In addition, China’s Xitao Polymer Co., Ltd. underwent maintenance from July 23–31, temporarily reducing Chinese availability and giving U.S. suppliers greater pricing leverage.

Looking ahead, PAM prices are expected to maintain an upward trajectory through late summer and autumn. ChemAnalyst projections indicate increases of 1.7% in August, 3.3% in September, and 3.2% in October. August pricing is likely to receive support from precautionary inventory building ahead of potential Atlantic hurricane disruptions, particularly as PAM buyers seek to protect water-treatment and oilfield operations against transportation interruptions. Municipal treatment demand is expected to remain seasonally firm, while continued oilfield polymer consumption should provide additional support. Buyers may also accelerate purchases before potential logistics disruptions, keeping spot availability relatively constrained.

During September and October, Polyacrylamide (PAM) prices could strengthen further as downstream industrial activity normalizes and procurement teams prepare for fourth-quarter operating schedules. Export competition for U.S. Gulf Coast material, firmer acrylamide costs, and limited reactor flexibility are expected to preserve supplier pricing power. The PAM market is forecast to stabilize in November, with ChemAnalyst projecting a 0.0% movement, before prices potentially rise 1.6% in December and 1.5% in January 2027. Continued water-treatment requirements, replenishment ahead of year-end production schedules, and potential logistics disruptions could sustain buying interest. However, any improvement in Chinese export availability or easing of feedstock costs could moderate the upward trend. Overall, PAM is expected to remain supported through Q4, although the magnitude of gains will depend on supply availability and procurement intensity.
