Worley supports AquaDuctus, a pioneering offshore hydrogen pipeline enabling cross-border green hydrogen transport and accelerating Europe’s integrated energy transition.

Worley is playing a key role in advancing the AquaDuctus offshore hydrogen pipeline, a landmark infrastructure project under the AquaVentus initiative that is set to underpin Europe’s emerging hydrogen economy. The project is widely regarded as a cornerstone for the development of a robust, cross-border hydrogen transport network in the North Sea, supporting the continent’s long-term decarbonization and energy security goals.

AquaDuctus is planned as a gigawatt-scale offshore hydrogen pipeline located in the German sector of the North Sea. The pipeline is designed to provide open, transparent, and non-discriminatory access to a wide range of network users. Its primary purpose is to enable the efficient transport of green hydrogen produced offshore—particularly hydrogen generated using electricity from offshore wind farms—to onshore demand centers across Europe. By moving hydrogen directly from offshore production sites to the mainland, the project helps avoid bottlenecks in electricity transmission and supports large-scale hydrogen deployment.

The strategic importance of AquaDuctus has been recognized through its designation as an Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI). This status highlights the project’s role in strengthening Europe’s energy infrastructure while fostering cooperation among member states. AquaDuctus is envisioned as the backbone of an interconnected offshore hydrogen network that will link Germany with neighboring North Sea countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Norway. Through these cross-border connections, the pipeline will bring together hydrogen production hubs and industrial consumption centers, accelerating the creation of a unified European hydrogen market.

Worley is delivering comprehensive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Management services across all stages of the project lifecycle. During the Select phase (Phase 1), Worley supports early project development activities, helping to define technical concepts and evaluate project feasibility. In the Define phase (Phase 2), the company contributes to detailed planning, engineering development, and preparation for execution. In the Execute phase (Phase 3), Worley oversees construction and implementation, ensuring the project is delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

The scope of Worley’s involvement includes engineering coordination, permitting support, inspections, documentation reviews, as well as schedule and cost monitoring. In addition, Worley is responsible for supervising and managing engineering, procurement, EPC, and commissioning contractors. Through this integrated approach, the company is helping to maintain high standards of quality, safety, and delivery certainty throughout the project’s lifecycle.

Worley is being supported in the project by StreamTec Solutions AG, which is leading the extensive permitting activities and providing specialized expertise in offshore construction and materials. StreamTec is a well-established player in the North Sea region, known for its experience in complex offshore projects. Worley has welcomed StreamTec as a key member of the execution team, strengthening the project’s technical and regulatory capabilities.

As the first large-diameter offshore hydrogen pipeline of its kind, AquaDuctus is expected to act as a central connection hub for hydrogen-producing offshore wind parks and for future interlinking pipelines across the North Sea. The project marks a significant step toward creating a scalable, integrated hydrogen infrastructure and represents a major milestone in Europe’s transition to a low-carbon energy system.
