TAQA Morocco and Moeve advance Morocco’s green hydrogen strategy through land agreement for large-scale green ammonia and e-fuels production.
TAQA Morocco and Moeve have formalized a preliminary land reservation agreement with the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco to advance a major green hydrogen initiative focused on producing green ammonia and sustainable industrial fuels. The agreement forms part of Morocco’s ambitious Green Hydrogen Offer, a national strategy designed to position the country as a competitive global hub for green hydrogen and its derivatives.
The large-scale project will be implemented through a consortium established by TAQA Morocco and Moeve. TAQA Morocco is a leading energy, water, and infrastructure operator in the Kingdom, while Moeve is an international energy company focused on advancing sustainable energy solutions and green molecule-based mobility. Under the consortium structure, each partner will oversee specific components aligned with its expertise and strategic strengths.
TAQA Morocco will take responsibility for the renewable energy segment of the project. This includes developing and integrating renewable power generation assets that will supply clean electricity required for green hydrogen production. The renewable infrastructure will be developed at a designated site in the Dakhla region, an area recognized for its significant renewable energy potential, particularly in wind and solar resources. By leveraging these natural advantages, the project aims to ensure cost-effective and sustainable production of green hydrogen.
Moeve, on the other hand, will lead the production and commercialization of e-fuels and green ammonia derived from hydrogen. Its activities will be centered at the Port of Jorf Lasfar, a major industrial and logistics hub in Morocco. From this strategic location, Moeve will oversee processing, export operations, and market development for hydrogen-based fuels, targeting both domestic industries and international markets seeking low-carbon alternatives.
The project has already been selected by the steering committee overseeing Morocco’s Green Hydrogen Offer, underscoring its strategic relevance and alignment with national priorities. With the signing of the land reservation agreement, the initiative now advances into a critical phase marked by the commencement of comprehensive feasibility studies. These studies will evaluate technical configurations, environmental considerations, financial viability, infrastructure requirements, and potential market pathways to ensure the project’s long-term success and scalability.
Abdelmajid Iraqui Houssaini, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of TAQA Morocco, emphasized that the partnership with Moeve represents a meaningful step in advancing TAQA Morocco’s decarbonization objectives. He highlighted that the collaboration will not only reduce the carbon footprint of the company’s portfolio but also promote green mobility by enabling the development of hydrogen-derived products essential for key industrial applications and transportation sectors.
Maarten Wetselaar, CEO of Moeve, described the agreement as a milestone in establishing large-scale green molecule production capacity in Morocco. He noted that combining Moeve’s expertise in green fuel development with TAQA Morocco’s strong renewable energy capabilities creates a solid foundation for accelerating decarbonization across heavy industry and transport. Together, the partners aim to contribute significantly to Morocco’s energy transition while strengthening its position in the global green hydrogen value chain.
